Montréal, June 9, 2003 – On May 26 last, the municipal council of the city of Montréal mandated the Office de consultation publique to conduct a public consultation with respect to draft By-law P-03-093, entitled “Règlement autorisant la construction, la transformation et l’occupation du centre de tennis du parc Jarry” [by-law authorizing the construction, transformation and occupancy of the Parc Jarry tennis centre] in the borough of Villeray/Saint-Michel/Parc-Extension. The draft by-law is in response to a zoning change request submitted by Centre de Tennis du Parc Jarry (CTPJ – Tennis Canada), to allow the expansion and modification of its sports facilities in Parc Jarry. The project also involves a redevelopment of the open spaces surrounding the existing and planned buildings.

The members of the commission were appointed by Mr. Jean-François Viau, president of the Office de consultation publique; they are: Ms. Louise Roy, who will chair the commission, and Mr. Bernard Hogue.

At the request of the municipal council, the OCPM had already held consultations last February and March on the draft by-law amending the urban plan of the borough of Villeray/Saint-Michel/Parc- Extension. The OCPM report was made public on April 16, 2003. Following the report, changes were made to the project. The “collective and institutional facilities” and “parc and public space” land use areas in the urban plan were adjusted to take into account the new development. These changes were reflected in an amendment to the urban plan, and By-law 03-012 was adopted by city council on May 26, 2003.

The documents pertaining to the consultation on draft By-law P-03-093 are available at the following locations:

  • Accès Montréal office of the borough of Villeray/Saint-Michel/Parc-Extension, located at 529 Jarry Est, 4th floor;
  • Parc-Extension municipal library, 42 St-Roch;
  • Direction du greffe de la ville de Montréal, 275 Notre-Dame Est, ground floor;
  • Office de consultation publique de Montréal, 1550 Metcalfe, suite 1414, and on its Web site: www.ocpm.qc.ca.

The public meetings will begin on June 18 next at 7:00 p.m., at Centre 7400 (7400 Saint-Laurent). This meeting will be devoted to a presentation on the project by the principal municipal departments concerned and by representatives of CTPJ-Tennis-Canada. Following this presentation, there will be a public question period, after which the commission will hear and gather comments and other presentations from individuals and organizations wishing to express their views on the project. The mission of the Office de consultation publique is to hold public consultations on the city of Montreal’s territory on all projects referred to it by the municipal council or executive committee, and at the request of one or the other.
