Come Walk With Us: Consultation on the Mount Royal Belt Road

Version imprimableEnvoyer

Montréal, May 27, 2008 – The Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) announced today that a public consultation will be held on the proposed Mount Royal belt road. The plan calls for a road approximately 10 kilometres long, circling the mountain and accessible to cyclists and pedestrians, which would cross the Parc du Mont-Royal, the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery, and the grounds of the Université de Montréal. A connecting road linking the north and south sides of the mountain is also planned. The routes would showcase the diversity and quality of the landscapes, while linking the various points of interest on the mountain.

The Office invites you to come and walk part of the road in order to better understand the planned layouts and routes. Two days are scheduled, Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8. The first day is devoted to the Outremont sector, and the visit of that segment of the planned road will begin at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock, a more formal session to present the overall project will be held at the Outremont borough office, 543 Côte Sainte-Catherine Road. The second day will focus on the route along the Côte-des-Neiges cemetery. Again, the departure time is 9:30 a.m., while the information session will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the parish hall of the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges church, 5320 Côte-des-Neiges Road.

The two information sessions are open to all, but those wishing to take part in the morning visits must first register with the Office at ocpm@ville.montreal.qc.ca, or by calling 514 872-8510. A register where citizens may enter their comments will also be available at the information sessions. Briefs may also be submitted, but the Office must be notified of an individual’s or organization’s intention to do so before June 17. The presentation of briefs will be held at the offices of the OCPM, 1550 Metcalfe Street, 14th Floor, on Thursday, June 19, at 7:00 p.m.

The documentation concerning the consultation is available on the Web site of the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (www.ocpm.qc.ca) or, in print, at the offices of the Office, the Outremont borough office, 543 Côte-Sainte-Catherine Road, and the Bibliothèque et maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges, 5290 Côte-des-Neiges Road, during regular hours.
