What are your thoughts on the mountain?
Montréal, April 3, 2008 – As part of its consultation on the Mount Royal Master Protection and Enhancement Plan, the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) is pleased to announce the posting on its Web site of a questionnaire for the general public concerning issues crucial to the future of Mount Royal. The questionnaire, added to the information session, thematic workshops and presentation of briefs, seeks to take the citizens’ pulse on this symbolic Montréal landmark. The aim is to gather, via the Internet and in printed form, the general perceptions of Montrealers and other Quebecers in terms of approaches to preserving and enhancing Mount Royal.
As indicated by Office President Louise Roy: “With no scientific pretensions, the questionnaire is a survey to better define expectations regarding the management of the mountain, at a time when important decisions must be made to allow the cohabitation of its various functions and uses. The commissioners believed that Montrealers’ attachment to Mount Royal justified additional effort on our part to allow as many people as possible to express their opinions. For some, a venue for gatherings and activities and, for others, a place for relaxation, reflection, or communion with nature, Mount Royal, with its natural environments, is one of the city’s green lungs increasingly affected by climate changes, intense heat waves, and urban smog. Its future concerns us all, which is why we are inviting all citizens to fill out the questionnaire and participate in the consultation activities.”
The questionnaire addresses a number of issues, including:
- The protection of green spaces, plants and animals;
- Automobile circulation and parking;
- Off-road cycling;
- Access;
- New constructions and facilities;
- Landscapes, etc.
It may be completed on line at www.ocpm.qc.ca, between March 20 and April 20, 2008. The answers will be compiled and provide food for thought for the commissioners responsible for the consultation.
The Office also launched a page on Facebook to promote discussion and gather comments about issues surrounding Mount Royal. All documentation pertaining to the project is available on the OCPM Web site at www.ocpm.qc.ca
